What is Kotahitanga?
Kaupapa & Koronga
01
Māori with Lived Experience
This is a space for whānau Māori with living experience of hauora hinengāro (mental distress) and/or harmful substance use (AOD), facilitated my Māori lived experience leaders.
03
Māori Values & Principles
Guided by the applied principles of tuakana teina (peer support) awhi mai, awhi atu (sharing and receiving knowledge) and Te Whakakoharangatiratanga (absolute respect).
02
Safe Space: Sharing & Kōrerorero
We explore mātauranga knowledge, stories, and thoughts to enhance wellbeing from a Māori worldview. We have a tika (honest) kōrero as whānau to genuinely check in with one another.
04
Weekly Zoom Hui
Each week we meet in the same place (same Zoom link) at the same time. It's a great way to stay connected to us and our kaupapa, but most importantly, to one another.

Over lockdown, we found that a lot of our whānau Māori with lived experience were feeling isolated, especially through social distancing requirements. The Te Kete Pounamu team created Kotahitanga as a online weekly virtual hui, where whānau could come together and connect with like-minded people to discuss how things were going over that period of time.
As time went on, Kotahitanga developed into a space where we could explore different Māori pūrākau, and their importance and relevance to our daily lives, our connections, and mauri ora (wellbeing).
